Jay and Cheryl Harris, Masters of Cabot House
As we embark on our fourth year as masters of Cabot House, we extend the warmest welcome to all students, tutors, and SCR members. We look forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. We hope that the coming academic year will be filled with success and fulfillment for all of you.
A word about ourselves: We are an old (very old) Barnard/Columbia couple, and have been married for 25 years. We remain avid Yankee fans (at least the more perspicacious one of us does). This year, Cheryl will continue her work as a school psychologist at Sharon (MA) High School; she devotes most of her time there to counseling and testing. She welcomes discussion with those of you who have interests in all areas of special education, special needs, and school psychology; she also welcomes speaking to those of you interested in everything else. Jay will be on leave from teaching in the fall, and will return to it in the spring. In addition to his teaching in Jewish Studies and Moral Reasoning, he directs the Center for Jewish Studies. As a member of the Advising and Counseling Committee, which has been revitalized as part of the Curriculum Review, he hopes you will be willing to share your thoughts on the nature of your academic and non-academic experiences here at Harvard, among many other things.
We have three children; our oldest, Ilan, will be a senior at Oberlin College. Becky begins her freshman year at McGill, and poor David, a 10th grader, will be stuck living with us at 107 Walker.
Susan Livingston, Assistant to the Masters
This will be my seventeenth year as the Cabot House Assistant to the Masters and although I've seen many changes throughout the years, the one thing that remains constant, is the wonderful students who live here every year. I can't imagine having a position at the University that would be as rewarding, stimulating and fun as this one is for me. I feel very lucky to be here. My office is located on the 2nd floor of A entry. The House Office is the administrative branch of Cabot. We handle everything from rooming assignments to budgeting and scheduling of space within the House. We also serve as the liaison to the other administrative offices at the College. Please feel welcome to drop in and peruse the video library or chat. There's always a basket full of chocolate just inside, too!
In addition to my role as Assistant to the Masters, I am also the theatre liaison for Cabot House and the producer and director of the Cabot House Musical each spring. I am passionate about movies, ethnic restaurants, NYC, theatre, exploring new places and learning new things. I hope you'll drop in and say "hello". I'd love to get to know you.
