Welcome to Cabot!
Cabot House has 363 beds assigned for student use. Of these approximately 250 are in suites (69%). Approximately 120 are located in single rooms (31%).
We want all students to be successful in what they do, and be happy and healthy. If some aspect of your living situation is causing you distress, contact the House Administrator (firstname.lastname@example.org). If the problem is a physical flaw with your room (burned-out lightbulb, broken window screen, bad faucet), you might want to try contacting the Building Manager (email@example.com). The Building Manager and your House Administrator work together closely, so don't hesitate if you have a problem.
Cabot's motto is Semper Cor, which means "Always Heart." Cabot tries to be thoughtful about housing students. For the past 3 years, we have been able to house seniors, juniors and sophomores in singles and suites.
Changes to your Housing Status:
The Golden Rule is-- Always Contact Your House Administrator First (an email will do, but just make sure the message is received). Even if the change is pretty standard, even if you aren't entirely sure. Still! Tell your HA! Your future self will thank you for it.
Why? Two major reasons:
- Your House Administrator can be your advocate with the college, and can explain things that online forms cannot capture. Maybe a fee can be waived for you. Maybe you only want to transfer to another house if you can live in Winthrop with your BFF from highschool, and there's no way to indicate that on the form. Tell your House Administrator so that she can be your advocate to get what you want.
- Your House Administrator will be better able to manage your housing changes if she hears it from you first. If you plan to return, you will eventually want housing, and your HA can help you get it-- and keep you in mind for the lottery. If you want to move away for good, you don't want to be charged for room and board while you're out, so be sure your House Administrator can advocate for you.
All forms for changing housing status are online at https://starrez.fas.harvard.edu/StarRezPortal/. This includes Housing Cancellation Forms, Returning Student Housing Forms, Inter-House Transfer Forms, Dudley Co-op Housing Forms, and more!
To access these forms, you need to log in with your HUID & PIN. This means that no one can change your housing status but you-- your House Administrator cannot go in and change your status for you. You have to do it. If you don't, the college won't recognize your request.
