BGLTQ+

At Cabot, there is profound Pride—in so many senses of the word—in the work achieved by our BGLTQ+ Tutors and Students these Covid-19 years of transition and transformation.

The Tutors, Staff, Resident Dean, and Faculty Deans of Cabot House are fully committed to an ongoing process of creating a supportive home for BGLTQ+ students and their allies. Many tutors post “Safe Space” signs on their doors to identify themselves as affirming allies and offer their pronouns in their introductions. Additionally, the BGLTQ+ tutors are always excited to meet with students individually and in groups to talk about concerns, questions, or just hang out and experience joy together.

Cabot's BGLTQ+ tutors are also eager to help support students interested in developing related programs or events for the House. Some examples of successful BGLTQ+ programs and events at Cabot in the recent past include: Queer Cabot, Welcome Bags, Queertopia, BiMonthly Dinners, Game Night, National Coming Out Day, Senior Sendoff & Flag Signing, BGLTQ+ Movie Night, Discussion Groups, Cabot Poetry Society, and Queer Café.

This year, the BGLTQ+ tutors and students are excited to continue organizing with the Queer Quad Houses (Pfoho, Currier, and Cabot) on programs and events like the Annual Fall Quad-Wide Dinner @Pfoho, Happy Valentine's Gay @Cabot, and TDORR @Currier, and look forward to working with the QuOffice on additional events on the Quad. All events are open to any Harvard student; all identities are welcome.

Interested in collaborating for 2022-2023? Reach out to Cassandra “Cassie” Montenegro, your BGLTQ+ Lead Tutor, at cmontenegro@hds.harvard.edu. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have an event idea, if you would like to help with or participate in future events, or if you simply have questions.

Additional Resources Outside Cabout

  1. QuOffice Programming (located in the Basement of Thayer Hall)

  2. LGBTQ+ Supports from the Office of Gender Equity

  3. Harvard Chaplains - Wondering what a Chaplain does? Email me (cmontenegro@hds.harvard.edu) and I can answer some basic questions (or have some Chaplains come to dinner to explain that themselves!). I am happy to put folx in touch with queer and trans Harvard Chaplains, and allies, from a variety of faith and non-faith traditions. They were visibly there for us in a powerful Solidarity Event on the steps of Memorial Church, and they will be here for us when we ask.
