Non-Resident Tutor Application

Non-Resident Tutors (NRTs) are valued members of the Cabot House community who offer academic, professional, and personal guidance to students. They play an important role in supporting students and contributing to the intellectual and social life of the House. Most NRTs work closely with one or more House committees (e.g., Pre-Medical, Pre-Law, Fellowships, STEM) to support student interests and needs. Drawing on their personal and professional experience, they meet with students, host events, write letters of recommendation, and serve as mentors throughout the academic year.

NRTs are encouraged to stay engaged with the House by regularly visiting, joining students for meals in the dining hall (4 meals per week are provided when the Cabot dining hall is open), and participating in House events, including open houses, concerts, and IMs. Their photos and bios are featured on the House website.

As university officers, NRTs also help ensure student well-being by:

  • Sharing student concerns with the Resident Dean;
  • Maintaining strict confidentiality around sensitive matters;
  • Avoiding romantic or otherwise inappropriate involvement with undergraduates.

We expect NRTs to meet the responsibilities set by their affiliated committees and respond to student needs as they arise. Appointments are for one academic year, with reappointment decisions made in late spring or summer based on contributions and House needs.
